Legal representation of indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses in the jurisdiction of Franklin County.
Program Description
The Franklin County Public Defender's Office is responsible for providing legal representation to any individual that meets four requirements:
- An issue places an individual in jeopardy of incarceration.
- Franklin County has jurisdiction over the issue.
- Court requirements concerning lack of financial resources are met.
- The court appoints this office to represent an individual.
This applies to both adults and juveniles charged with a criminal offence(s). It involves adult bail and juvenile detention hearings: adult preliminary hearings and juvenile adjudications; adult probation and parole violation hearings, and juvenile probation violations; adult sentencing and juvenile dispositions; appeals for both adult and juvenile clients; indirect criminal contempt hearings for both non-support of children and violations of protection of abuse orders; as well as grand jury representations of adults and juveniles.
